Matthew 16:5-12

The Pharisees and the Sadducees

      1.  Who were the Pharisees?

-Religious and Political conservative group.

Jesus Charged them with “Blind leaders of the blind.” Mt 15:12-14

      2. Who were the Sadducees?

                - Religious and Political Liberal group.

                Jesus Charged them with:

a.       Not knowing scripture Mt 22:23-29

b.       They did not know the power of God Lk1:37, Mt 19:26

Yeast illustration of Corrupt Doctrines, or False Doctrine

Mt 16:8-11 Socratic method to teach or enlighten a disciple.

Yeast can also produce Apostasy Heb 5:11-14

Mt 16:9 “Do you” VS “can you” Our Behavior or thoughts are partially intentional.

Pharisees today:

1.       Teach and practice traditions of men vs God’s commands.

2.       Teach on thing the practice another.

3.       Do things to be seen by man (Glory to man not God)

4.       Don’t point people the way to the Kingdom of God

5.       Church is a business.          

Sadducees today:

1.       Only follow Red Letters

2.       Accept Jesus words, not the Apostles.

3.       Jesus is OT and Apostle is NT

4.       Only accept Biblical Doctrine if it “Makes Sense.”

5.       Reject any doctrine, promise if they conceive as not physically possible.

Jesus was teaching the disciples and us today in Mt 16:5-12

The bible is not always literal Yeast is an illustration.

Unbelief: even when seen with our own eyes needs to be refined out of our way of thinking.

God will provide what we need.
